Number the Stars
November 2, 2023
9:30AM, 12:30pm & 7PM*
La Mirada Theatre for
the Performing Arts
Adapted by Dr. Douglas W. Larch
with Susan Elliott Larche
Based on the book by Lois Lowry
Based on true-life events in 1943 Denmark during World War II, “Number the Stars” tells the story of a Christian family who hides and ultimately rescues their Jewish neighbors. Described as “one of the most inspiring episodes in human history,” the Danish people saved thousands of Jews from the hands of the Nazis, helping them escape to Sweden.
Through the eyes of ten-year-old Annemarie, we watch as the Danish Resistance smuggles almost the entire Jewish population of Denmark, nearly seven thousand people, across the sea to Sweden. The heroism of an entire nation reminds us that there was pride and human decency in the world even during a time of terror and war.
Before the show (or any time on November 2), eat at Cabo Taco Baja Grill in La Mirada. Mention you’re there to support Phantom Projects and they will donate 20% of your purchase back to us.
